Overview
About 10km south of Siem Reap, the land runs out and the Tonle Sap begins — the Great Lake of Cambodia, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, and home to communities who live entirely on the water. On this half-day trip you take a traditional wooden boat out among stilt houses, floating markets, schools and shops, and see a way of life shaped completely by the rise and fall of the lake.
This is the real, working life of the Tonle Sap rather than a staged show — fishing families, boats as the only streets, and the seasonal rhythm that swells the lake several times over in the wet season. Your guide explains how the community lives, farms and moves with the water. It pairs naturally with Siem Reap's markets and the Artisans d'Angkor silk workshop.
